There will come a time when one will become inactive, either for the reason of incapacitation, old age or death. At these moments, the question is; who carries on? Success and achievement are not given to just one generation. It is transgenerational – whoever or whatever that serves only its present generation is destined to fail. You have broken the law of posterity if everything starts and ends with you. For example, the most significant contribution Jesus made to the world was His well-trained and well-mentored disciples He left behind. They spread the gospel all over the world. The greatest expression of this leadership principle of succession and continuity is found in Jesus’ statement to the leaders that He raised: ‘all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, therefore, go and make disciples of all nations’ (Matthew 28:18-19). Thus, your most significant contribution to life is not cars, name, buildings, money, position, but your successor, I mean someone that carries on after you. You are not called to maintain followers; you are called to raise leaders that will take over after you have stepped aside from the stage of life. There is no star that shines permanently. (more…)
