QUOTE OF THE DAY: “IN A COMPETITIVE ATMOSPHERE, ONLY THE COMPETENT CARRY THE DAY”

ANCHOR TEXT: “So Saul said to his attendants, “Find someone who plays well and bring him to me”

                1 Samuel 16:17.

If there is anything called luck, such is embedded in hardwork and adequate preparation. This is the springboard of competence.  To be competent means: to have what it takes to excel far above one’s contemporaries.  The competition in today’s world is not between those who have more and those who know less. Rather, it is between those who know more and those who know less. Equally important in the world of competence is the practicability or applicability of knowledge to solving human problems. There are enormous quantities of knowledge taught in tertiary institutions that are not applicable and relevant to the real world, because they cannot be translated to value that can be paid for. When I ask: how competent are you? I am indirectly asking; how valuable or skillful are you? From today’s anchor scripture, when King Saul needed good music to lift his soul from depression, he requested for a skillful and competent harp player. Interestingly, among all the harp players, David’s name came to mind; He was suggested and sent for, and he performed to Saul’s expectation. Now, here is the question. If your knowledge, skill or aptitude were tested along with your contemporaries, are you sure you will fall within the best three?
